I want to thank you for your web description info. I see that the loop is manageable with lots of fun and safety. We are set to plan the loop as our daughter's first venture in an organized bc trip. At 90 lbs, she'll be packing in a lot with her group and adult guides, but your description leads me to believe that she will have a life experience...and won't be too, too sore! We hope for no to little rain or unexpected bears. Thanks again, and don't hesitate to send more advice!

Hey Brett,

Awesome site! I'm about to go to do the Copper Ridge. I'm really looking forward to it. I have a website, mountainmanmadness.com also. I was wondering if you would add it to your links page. I already have your site on my links page and was hoping if you would return the favor.

Just came back.from a July 1 dayhike. Returning after many years..I was the last USFS lookout in 1967 before the North Cascades Park was formed. The plan was to get as far as the pass but stopped an Hannnegan camp meadow because of deep snow on the trail. The final switchbacks to the pass were nowhere to be seen. The Park Officials said they just manned the the lookout by helicopter a few weeks ago and there was lots of snow above 4500 ft. Lots of runoff streams and trail damage from the winter so plan to get wet feet. Saw a bear on the trail preparing for the summer. Still one of the best hikes in the area. Do it if you can. Thanks for the web description of your trip.

wow the Cascades look amazing. I'm just fascinated by the northwest in general and I really need to go. I'm bookmarking this website and hopefully I'll convince some of my friends to go too. I will have a problem going in September too because of school, but hopefully the trail will be clear of snow by August right?

Dennis - check with the ranger station in Glacier.

There is a lot of snow in the Cascades this year - more than usual, so I would expect that unless we have an unusually warm spring - it's going to stick around.

I've done it mid-july and and there was a bunch of snow left on the way up to hanegan and part of the trail beyond. When I did it in September it was the first time I had seen the trail without snow :)

I'm guessing Late July and Aug will be nice and clear. Enjoy your trip!

great info on the copper ridge loop. i've done the lower portion a few years ago. hiked, actually bushwacked, from canada and connected with the trail. wondering when is the best time to go or the earliest w/o the snow at the top. we went in first week of june and there was quite a bit of snow before hannigan pass. i was still in runners. but at least we got to enjoy some of the lovely forest campsites there.i will start legally at hannigan. sept. is out of the question for me. will be spending 2 weeks backpacking in the north cascades. thanks.

yoram - tough call.

the enchantments such a classic - and in early october the crowds will be less, i think you don't need a permit (you should verify) and the trees in all their fall glory. if it were aug i think i'd vote for copper - but given the date - i think the enchantments will be more of an epic :)

have fun!

Brett,

Great post. I am having a hard time with a decision for a backpacking trip Oct. 8-10th, 3 days. I'm deciding between Copper Ridge and the Enchantments, and I see you've done both. Do you have any thoguhts (I know you liked the Enchantments as the best trip)? I'm flying in from quite a distance and this may be only trip to the area I'll have so I want to make the best decision.

thanks so much for your help.

Brett,
OUTSTANDING website. I will send this to my brother who is my former backpacking partner. His wife quashed our yearly trips. Maybe this, plus the ultralight approach, will revive his interest.
